OBD2 was not introduced to the Cherokee until the 1996 year model, so he was sorta telling the truth. You can test the codes with an older model, but not with the same standard OBD2 reader.

I'm Renix. I Don't have your problem. I happened to be at O'Pegans here in CC CA, (where they didn't have my part they told me they did).
I asked, and O'pukes, doesn't provide scans here.

I re-read. I'm thinking eliminate the ballast resistor. (that cermamc thing by the air cleaner with orange wires) By-passs it. I'm not sharp on your OBDI dizzy, might be that can be an issue. .....After market CPS's can be an issue. If you can catch it with a "no start", then unplug and re-plug the CPS, maybe you found something. I did see also gauges (might or might not act) goofy. "
Again...what do you get with the "key trick" on that 94?

Ah right. I remember reading about the OBD1 and 2. Since I plan on keeping this Cherokee alive as long as possible I might look into getting an OBD1.

I had the same problem on both my 96 and my 99 ...come to find out that the TPS was causing the problem and I replaced it on both of them and the problem was fixed....a friend had the same on his 94 and he replaced his TPS and he hasn't had a problem since ....but one word of caution don't buy the cheap TPS because you will be kicking yourself ....I bought a cheap one
and had to replace it 2 months later (my 96).....hope this helps !!

I've never heard of this. Just tried it, I got three codes, then the 55.
11 - Fault in wiring between crankshaft position sensor (CPS) and ECM (PCM or computer) or faulty CPS.
12 - Battery or power to the ECM disconnected in the last 50 key cycles.
15 - No signal detected from speed sensor. Check circuit and sensor.

check all the wiring to the cps possibly grounding against metal is this an auto tranny? does putting it in neutral just before you stop make any difference
Yes its an auto. Faulty wiring must be the culprit with the CPS, since the sensor itself is fresh and (as far as I concerned) properly installed. If I were to replace the wiring where could I get a replacement? i.e. what term would I be looking for?... haven't tried the neutral thing either. I'll give it a go.
Great. I'm looking for information on the speed sensor, i.e. function, location, maintenance and replacement, and its not in the Haynes index. Is there another term it goes by?
From what I've read so far its practically a tachometer... my speedo, trip counter, and tach on the instrument panel have been out since April (been using a GPS for speedo), could there be a connection between those problems?
