Nobody's mad at anybody. U haven't replaced the heart of the cooling system. If u r still overheating......and u just named the heart of the cooling system and the fact that u hasn't been replaced it......think about it. The info u've learned in this one thread, u can take with u the rest of your life and pass it along to your kids. Everything in this thread applies to any old car. No one here drives a XJ that's still covered under factory warranty. If u have access to only one car, the XJ or any other old car, and u don't want to walk, preventative maintenance should be 1st on the "to do" list ahead of big tires and lift. LOL

Using the "search" feature will reveal hundreds, if not a thousand "XJ overheating" threads and 99.9% of them say "I've replaced, whatever cooling system part (singular and usually the t-stat), and it's still overheating, what else could it be"?......and the only for sure answer is "what else have u NOT replaced?". U can count on one hand, maybe just 2-3 fingers, the number of overheating threads that say "I've replaced the entire cooling system on the old car (and list all the parts) and it's still overheating".

Again, not bashing, not getting mad at, just trying to evoke a little thinking on ones part.

I'm only 16 why do you think I made a thread asking what could be the problem? Sorry if I was "guessing" too much and not buying everysingle new cooling system componet. I have a job but I also have to buy gas and insurance. I just needed some help on it. Didn't mean to intend to get people mad about it. I just needed ideas before I dumped even more money into this jeep haha so I'm sorry ill make sure to do everything I can before I make a thread
lol thats the best post ever!

im having sort of the same problem and just made my own thread about it. named a hand full of things that ive checked and done. symptoms of what im seeing while driving and it seems with out just telling someone to change this or change that, there's not much more advice given. there is a reason we (this kid and i) have started threads. we're not sure of what to look for.
we're looking for some friendly advice. or at least be pointed in the right direction. not aimlessly changing parts b/c its just easier for you all to post that. sorry for the rant.

Here is the bottom line: "A chain is as strong as its weakest link".
I had no overheating issues but I just changed all cooling system components including all the hoses, except the radiator, when I swapped my 0331 head. All were original parts and I know because I bought the car new. Total cost was less than $150. So the question is: Is it worth $150 to not have to worry about any cooling/heating issues for another 5-10 years? In my opinion, the answer is absolutely yes.

I know I gotcha I could have searched it. I have found a lot of things that have helped my jeep out on here. This is a good website and I'm just not mechanically inclined in the cooling system. But I do do my own work on it with the help of my dad so I'm sorta inclined but I am learing. You are right I'm not doubting you there's a lot I could do before asking questions I just thought it would be a tad easier to just make a thread and see what everyone thought it could be.

What old car do you NOT constantly change parts and spend money on in order to have a reliable daily driver? Think about it. When u start new on a forum, it's always good to "search" 1st. This thread is 10 days old, in 10 minutes of "searching" lots of guessing would be eliminated and a good education would have been started.

some of us dont have $150 to drop on parts that are no bad and may not go bad for some time. so the answer may be yes. in reality it might not be an option! k?

My apologies as I believe it was my post the you interpreted as "mad". It was frustration not mad. I understand not wanting to spend money on something you may not need. Please understand what is being said about replacing the cooling system parts. If you are not completely sure that a part good, then it has to be suspected as a cause. And with an older vehicle the only way to know a part is good is to test it individually. Some parts may only be tested by replacing with a known good part. And just because a part is new is no guarantee it is a good part. I bought a defective cap when I was troubleshooting my overheating problem.
If you really are overheating to 230F more problems are most likely in the near future.
My best recommendation is to start replacing those old parts one at time. That will let you see any change made by the new part in solving the overheating mystery.
