Reservoir shocks are popular and look nice, but unless you plan on running something like JeepSpeed, they are not needed and a waste of money. For the average trail rig, mono tubes are all you need.

The reservoir holds more dampening fluid, and keeps it cooler during rapid cycling, since it is not stored in the shock body. Like what was already said, for normal wheeling, they aren't needed. HTH!!

I just put a RE 3.5 SuperFlex on my XJ. I ran Fox Shocks with resevoirs on all corners. I took it out for the first time tonight with the lift kit, shocks and tires. I baja'd the s**t out of my Jeep and I was VERY impresses.

Spend the extra $$ and get the resevoir shocks.

Shocks help cusion your ride (depending on the shock/setup). They do not help you go faster.

It gave me lots of dampening going on some power roads with lots of ruts and bumps. There were quite a few option roads I could not go up with the open diffs. I just backed up, hit the gas hard and expected the front end to slam down knocking out my teeth.

It didn't happpen... The Fox Resevoir shocks kick A$$!

I was able to go up every option route that my buddy could in his YJ with lockers and 33's

Now I just need to trim what is left of my fenders. Pieces are currently in the trunk

yup but i will say something like the 5151 bilstines i run in the rear are also good for trail as well the extra fluid helps keep the dampening consistent the whole day

I think the time it takes a shock to respond is not affected by whether or not it has a reservoir, but I would imagine most reservoir shocks are designed to respond faster due to the way they are generally used.
