Default Modified Factory Bumper

Anyone ever modified their factory bumper for cut fenders? I need to put the bumper back on mine and I want to cut the bumper so that it doesnt hang as low and is angled upwards on the ends.

the only way you could really change ur front stock bumper for the better without hacking it to bits and chopping ends and bottoms off it would be just to replace it

Thats my write up on my rear tow points. I had to hack up my rear bumper and while I was at it I shortened it.

For what i'm going to do with the rig, a custom bumper is not neccesary. I will find the thread you are talking about. I found me a bumper at the yard in good shape for $10. I started cutting holes in it today. I have a couple tow hooks off a full-size truck that will be mounted to the front frame with some reiforcement. These have been used to tug it out before and work good. I will also recess my fog lamps behind the bumper.

On the rear, i'm just going to take some material from a spare and widen it to be slightly wider than the body, cut it so it matches the shape of the body and sticks out maybe a 1/4" and box it in. I have a frame mounted hitch to use as the tug point out back.

Well here it is. My plan with the rear isnt going to work. I have a spare front bumper I was going to use to widen it but the profile isnt exactly the same like I thought. So its eaither buy some similar gauge metal and bend up the pieces myself or I may find some plastic ends to throw back on it.

Thanks. Didnt turn out too bad for a $10 bumper and a probably six hours of measuring and cutting. Just got to figure out what to do with the back.

The one in the yard was a 94 IIRC. But it looks the same as the one that originally came on it. Just without the plastic trim pieces. Says you have a 98, I think by then they went to the big plastic covers with the big trim pieces. Mine is a 96 with a newer header panel on it. Originally, I wanted to recess the fog lights behind the bumper between the tow hooks. You guys think it would look better like that or do you like it better the way it is. When I looked at it, I kinda thought it would look cluttered if I put them behind it. Maybe if I used some smaller ones but I think these might be too big.

I threw a little rustoleum on the front axle while I was at it too. I still need to pull the header panel back off and spray it with some white so it will match the rest of the Jeep better. Bumpers painted with some of the Duplicolor rattle-can truck bed coating. Leaves a fine textured finish.
