Default Moab Wheels on 235/70-16 tires ????

I just purchased a set of Moab wheels for my XJ. I have 235/70-16 tires on Icon wheels with stock suspension all around, except for upgraded leafs (Crown HD). Gives me about a half inch rake upfront. I believe the Icons are 16x7, correct me if I'm wrong. I know the Rubicons the Moab wheels came on stock 245/75-16 tires. That should be about a half inch wider and 3/4 inch taller. If I slap on the 235s on the Moab wheels, should I expect any problems since the new wheels are 16x8? I did notice the current tires rub on the brake line cover hoses upfront.

It depends on what the back space is on the new wheels.

I believe the back spacing is 5" as opposed to the icon 5.25"

Icons are 5.25 bs, moabs are 5. I run the moabs I got on 225/75/16 with no problems.

Probably not too useful info for you, but I've got 255-55-16s on my Moabs and fit with no issues.

Look up the tires you want to get at tire rack (or a similar brand, same size) and look at the specs. It will say what rim widths that size will fit.

hbracing13, SuperRA, thanks for chiming in. I've read a few others have tried the same tire on the Moab with no problem. I'll swap the skins this weekend and report back. Like the look of the Moabs. Maybe I'll try a budget boost and get he 245s later. I just both these tires a couple years ago. I figure I have another 1.5 yrs left on them. Should buy me some time to save $$$$.

I just realized you were worried about the rim/tire interfering with the jeep and not if the tire will fit on the rim.

Yea so this means the inside edge of the Moab rim will sit .25" further away from anything (i.e. brake lines) than the icons did. You should be good to go.

Yes, I wasn't sure if the extra inch of wheel would "offset" the drop in backspacing and give me issues. As far as the tire goes, I did check the specs on the manufacturer's website and it fits an 6-8 inch wheel. The 245s should net about 3/4" lift and are about a half inch wider. I think I should still be ok w/o any rubbing. Thanks again.
