From what I know, to burp a closed cooling system you raise the rear of the vehicle and use the 1/2" temp gauge sensor (rear/driver side of the engine) as bleeder. This sensor is very difficult for me to access. Is there an easier / better way.

They make an inline radiator cap fitting that goes on the upper radiator hose and kinda makes it into an open system. When your radiator blows (just a matter of time with copper/brass) swap out the open system radiator your engine was intended to operate with.

FYI, I'm purposely leaving the shroud off all through Summer to see if I actually need it or not. If it never gets hot, I'm throwing it away
Ok, what happens when a kid puts their hands unknowingly where there should be a protective cover? I'm sure little Timmy or little Sally will say the same thing you did...

Or someone leans over with a hoodie on and their draw strings get caught in there... I'm sure a close shave wouldn't describe it.. Just sayin..

Even it you don't lose fingers - the portion above the radiator is a "natural" place to put tools. When a tool slides into the fan it flies like rocket. You won't like the way you look with 3/8" ratchet sticking out the side of your head.

The shroud is there for cooling AND safety.
