Hey guys - new here, just picked up a 1996 Country with 140K on it...
It has a miss at idle that goes away when you accelerate, but only once the truck warms up. When cold it misses constantly.
The CEL was on and was throwing a code for a misfire in cylinders 1 and 4.
The truck has had new plugs, wires, and cap recently.
I was told that it might be dirty fuel injectors.
Any opinions / advice?

1. What brand spark plugs are in there? If they are Bosch or E3, swap them for plain old Champion Coppers. Gapped to .035 There are multiple threads now with isolated problems with these plugs.

2. Test compression. It is a good "snapshot in time" of the internal condition of the engine. The spec. for the 4.0 is 120-150 psi, with no more than a 30 psi variation between cylinders. Even if this is not your problem, it is good to know this number!

3. Try a quality fuel system cleaner. For symptoms like yours, I recommend BG44K. It is an excellent fuel system cleaner. TECHRON, by Chevron, is pretty good as well. A bottle of Techron concentrate is about $6.50 at WalMart.

 

I will check the plugs - I have NO idea what the PO put in there...
I will also try the fuel system cleaner...
It would be cool if that is all it is...
