A friend of mine has a jeep with an 8.25 with bad bearings. It is stock and he does not off-road it. I told him we could trade rear ends. I don't think I have any noises coming from mine but I dont want to screw him over. Mines a 90 his a 94 w tow package. Any thoughts on this trade?

Why trade it?
Why trade no problems for problems?

I can fix problems. Bearings are easy and good preventative maintenance. Would be on my list of to dos anyhow. I need a stronger axle as I will be upgrading to 35s or 36s..

3.07 manual xjs, 3.55 for autos, and some xjs with tow package have 3.73 gears. 2.5L have 4.10 gears I believe.

U have a 4cyl 2.5L then u should have 4.10s, and yes they can have 8.25 axles.

Look for a d44 or 8.8 they will be more common to find with 4.10 gears

Aren't 44s really hard to find though?

Not all 2.5 4 cyl are 4.11 geared. If I remmber right my kids 85 5spd has 3.73s from the factory. If your trading a D35 for a 8.25 the drive shafts are different lengths also.

the preferred 8.25 is from 97 or newer with the 29 spline shafts which are comparable in strength to a d44.
