Metal bushings with shocks

Metal bushings with shocks
So bought RE monotube shocks for my lift and installed already but did not put on metal bushings that came with the shocks. I know they should go in the rubber bushings at the bottom of the front and both bottom and top of rear but how? or are they just some sort of extension?
