Max lift without change
Id like to put a cheap 2" lift kit on my 2000 XJ, just the coil spacers and rear shackles. I dont do extreme off roading with it just want a lil more lift. First question is the spacers and shackles an "ok" why to go just for lift?
My main question is whats the maximum lift you can put without having the change track bar and steering? Im only planning on 2 inches. Other than stablizer links, would anything else have to be changed?

My thoughts exactly. Maybe he was thinking stiffer shocks, but thats kinda far off for what he was saying.
I've seen it suggested you upgrade shocks if you lift at all, but I'm not sure how vaild that is in regards to a 2" lift. Stockers may be able to handle 2 just fine.

coil stiffiners are a hillbilly way of taking the dive out of cornering if your on a budget. you can get them at any decent auto parts store. all they are is little aluminum blocks that you twist in between your coils to stiffin them up. Cost is about 5 bucks.

Thanks for the input. How about the lift setup i asked about. Are the shackles "ok" for the rear? Again I dont really do extreme off roading, just loose sand while at the beach and some mud.

Newer XJ's are more prone to vibration when lifted so pay attention to that after you install the shackles. A 2" lift with AAL's gave me vibration and shackles will make the pinion angle worse. You may need to look into a small tc drop.

Also make sure your leaves are in decent shape. If they are already sagging or starting to flatten out, then throwing bigger shackles on will only speed that process up.

If they are, those are really bad for the coils. It doesn't let them do their job, and if you stretch them out you destroy the structure of the metal, effectively destroying the springs ability to cope with the weight they are intended for.
Same as heating the coils til they are red hot and collapse to lower the vehicle.
Modding the coils themselves is generally a bad idea.
