Here's the issue with the conversion (IMO).

You're still relying on 3 bolts to hold the spindle down. And the spindle is pushing the tire assembly out further ... so you are creating more leverage and have less hardware to hold it down. I suppose people will argue that the 3 bolts are much bigger than the the old style setups.

The reid racing setup is cool but costly. I still prefer to manually convert the yokes and then you can do things as you want to do them.

I'm going to run slugs for the trail and lockouts for the road. Will carry the lockouts in case I break a shaft on the trail.

yes you are right
but if you cant do the fab work your self and are not going to do a lot of heavy 4x4 stuff just trails and light stuff
the convertion kit can be a good setup

my Cherokee is the first 4x4 I have ever owned that did not have locking hubs

I tend to do some pretty hard 4 wheeling but its more a dd right now due to the fact that i'm up at school, but I grew up wheeling in moab and the jeep has seen most of the trails out there, but i tend to be pretty light on the throttle. The jeep has held up to 35's with a locker on the dana 30 for quite a while now with no problems so I am assuming that the hub would be close to as strong as it is now. I would rather break a hub than an axle tho and I like the idea of completely disengaging my front end while on the road considering this is my dd til im out of college.

if you haven't broken an axle yet then the conversion kit should hold up to what you do

there are other options that have been pointed out
you just gotta consider what you need and what works with your ability's and time constraints and the big one money
