Default Manual Console ?s

When I got my 95 xj the manual console was trashed, so I swapped it out. All it came with was the outer boot and no way of securing it, is there someplace I can buy the parts to re-attach it, maybe a lock ring or something?

Salvage yard would be a good place to start...Other then that likely a dealer only part..

Looks like it might be replaceable by a Hurst shift boot. Try your local speed shop or Summit Racing for a replacement but I think you are only going to find black ones.

First of all I would start by removing the red and black wires from under the boot. When I lifted mine up to clean stuff you had to use a regular screwdriver to pry it up and then it just pressed down back into the sides. Mine is also a 99 ax15 and looks a little different. If you need I can snap some pictures tonight.

I had to replace mine as well. I had the boot but no way to secure it to the console. I got the complete kit from the dealer. I dont remember exactly how the boot secures to the ring that attaches to the console. It should be pretty easy to see, I believe it may stretch around it.

Someone with an old and someone with a new manual tranny post up some pics so we can get this settled. The majority have autos so are of no real help but those pics need to be in the file for future reference.

I agree, this plastic trim piece is fragile and I dont want to force it in wrong and break it.

Wonder what the differences are in the different years and if it also follow the '96 as a break year formula?

I'm sure that they changed the console and shifter boot style when they changed the body and interior style. My shifter boot makes a 90* bend on the drivers side and flows down about a half an inch towards the 4wd gear selector.
