Manual to Automatic Swap
Hey all, I have a 1987 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer 4.0L 5 speed manual 4x4 that I use for climbing and mudding. Well I messed up the clutch or slave cylinder ( don't know manual tech much) and just decided to go ahead and find an automatic for the thing. How would I go about doing this?
Is the transfer case different? How do I go about doing everything?
Please don't say "just replace the clutch or cylinder" I really don't care for manual with 4x4 :/
Please help!

From what I know, you would need a whole complete donor Jeep with the auto trans. The front shaft and the rear too I believe are different lengths. Depending on if you are going to lift it I think you can reuse one of those shafts but I cant remember which one. The transfer case should be the same if the donor vehicle is around the same year because after a certain year the splines changed. Also the cross member holding the trans/t-case up is different in height. And you might need to change out your pedal assembly. Until someone else can chime in with more info, I hope this helps your planning

Its more work than its worth, if you put it on craigslist as a "will trade for auto cherokee", it will be gone in a few days. Sure, its got the junk ba10, but its still a 5 speed cherokee. There getting a little hard to find and people do want them

Well hell. How hard it to replace the slave cylinder then? It's a 1987 so it should have a BA-5 Trans right? I want to keep this jeep, or atleast have it driveable to trade.

Yup, since its an internal slave cylinder, you have to separate the trans from the block so you might as well hit whatever else you can while you're in there. I would do the clutch and flywheel at least, then at least you know they're fresh
