Hey guys, i have a 99 cherokee sport. I just replaced the CPS and put a new battery in it. During the test drive i noticed a loud squealing almost like a belt squeal but medal sounding coming from roughly the transfer case. I have noticed it happens while breaking real hard and in reverse if i nail it off right off the gun, normal break doesnt really do it but if you stop hard it will start to happen. Basically its only under load. Its sounds like its coming from somewhere between the trans and transfer case. Thanks sorry for the long post i know these types of things can be tricky to diagnose over the web. so i am trying to be descriptive. Another example of the noise is like a starter squeal when it wont start. maybe flywheel related..

Also i noticed i threw a new check engine light so i while have to see what thats all about, although i dont think they are related.

If you can, I would suggest taking off the dust cover and checking tightness of your flex plate bolts. (unless you have a 5 speed, I'm not sure if there's a similar procedure?) - is yours a manual and you in fact have a flywheel, or do you have an automatic (aw4?) I only ask cuz people always call the flex plate the flywheel by mistake, and also I'm pretty sure a lot more automatics were made than manuals.

It could also POSSIBLY be as simple as the drip pan or dust/inspection cover being loose.

Also check your trans fluid (start simple)
