loud pop noise from the rear when I hit a bump
Alright, I just replaced my AAL's with new RC 4.5" full leaf packs about two weeks ago but just recently everytime I hit I good size bump or hole it makes a loud poping noise from the back. It's just one solid POP. Any clue what the heck is going on? I already recheck all bolts and everything is to specs.... This never happened with the AAL kit and before you ask no I dont have an SYE kit installed.

upper shock bolt loose?
when I changed mine recently, I snapped a bolt off (actually three total. gotta love that mount design and salt!) and had to drive to store to get a new bolt and the right size tap. it made a noise like that. sounded like someone hitting the floor with a hammer. only had one bolt holding it in and half the old one.

Worn shock bushings? Worn sway bar bushings. Loose sway bar. I had a XJ years ago with the spring hitting the spring pocket and I redesigned the spring pocket and welded in a new deeper box. That was a lot of work but it solved the problem and it was much stronger.

I think it could be upper shock mount noise too. I had the same problem when I lifted my XJ and wheeled it a couple times. I used the rear sway bar mounts to make my own rear bar pin eliminators. Solved the problem completely. Here;s an article on how to do your own rear upper BPEs...

the same sound came from my new shackles hitting the 2 bottom bumper bolts when the shackle moved back, i just removed the 2 bolts, ground down the extra threads that were sticking past- problem solved, no more bump sound
