Quote: Just went and looked. My pumpkin is on the left (driver's) and the diff vent is up near the booster, kinda tucked back in there.

Your pumpkins on the right (passenger) side?
You are correct, I was wrong. But I'm sure you knew that all along. Thanks for taking the high road.

Quote: You guys crack me up. And yes....it's not as easy to crawl underneath as it used to be! Everyone has been helpful, and this weekend I was able to return the favor to someone else.

I neglected to mention my Cherokee is 2WD so I am thinking the loose hose is in fact supposed to look up to an evap canister...somewhere!

Its the classic case of a black hose against a black engine in a dark engine compartment, plus having little time other than weekends to mess with it.

I will figure it out this Saturday, solve the mystery and post an update.

How the heck did we start talking about pumpkins? Is it some sort of Cherokee Halloween insider joke?

Thanks all.

Keith
The pumpkin is the differential housing. On 4WD you have front and rear. If you put the specifics about what Jeep you have in your signature or avatar, it makes it easier for everyone trying to help. (E.g. 1995 Jeep XJ 4.0L, 2WD, AW4 etc.

Good luck.

Halloween, my least favorite holiday, is next month.

Your advice on the signature and/or avatar, or Heaven forbid your profile, is immensely helpful to those trying to help you. People are missing out on good advice, and getting bad advice, by not doing the above.

Loose line photos
1995 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 HO Straight 6, 2WD Sport, 4 speed auto transmission.

Hardline comes up on driver's side firewall as group of four hardlines. Rubber hose is 5/16 inch ID that then runs behind engine head/valve cover.
Rubber hose terminated in area by evap canister, oil filter/oil pressure sensor.

I have looked all over the evap canister and in that area, and unable to determine where the line should slip onto.

I am thinking of accosting someone I see driving with the same year and ask them to let me peek under the hood>

It's over 100 degrees today and I am too old and uncomfortable to crawl under the Jeep today.

Any ideas?

Keith

That's the same setup I have on my '96. Hardline up to the engine bay, then rubber hose along the firewall, behind the valve cover- which connects to the canister. The other line on the canister connects to the purge solenoid.

There are also hard metal lines in that area that carry brake fluid from the master cylinder to front and rear brakes. No plastic hose, metal end to end.

Is it suppose to just dangle like that. I think that’s wat I have too.

No idea where this is suppose to go or hook up to something. Just bought the jeep and did the oil change.

This thread is about 11 years old. :}

In your picture, that looks like the end of the vent line that goes into the top of either the transmission or transfer case.
