I installed a new radio in my 2001 XJ a few months ago with Android Auto. All was well until I got a new phone and Android changed the Android Auto app. Now when I connect my phone I get a message that says I need to park and put on the parking brake before it will connect to my phone. I guess it is there so I don't try to hook it up while I'm driving and distracted. When I installed the radio I didn't tap into the parking brake since it was working well without it. Now with the new phone and Android Auto app I can't connect my phone for navigation.
Very long winded into to ask a simple question: Where is a convenient spot for me to tap into the parking brake wire under the dash or behind the radio? I am pretty sure it is a Grey wire with a Black Stripe. Any pictures would be very helpful.
PS I did a Google search but I only found info about the parking brake cable!

You can download a manual here: http://cruiser54.com/?page_id=365
But why don't you just look at the connector at the parking brake lever? I mean if you installed the stereo, can't you just tap it at the lever?

Thanks for the manual Dusty. It will take me the rest of the evening to sift thru it. I'm trying to tap into it without taking out the entire center console to get to the wire. I've gotten really lazy lately. At 68 years old I'm looking for the easy way to do things.
BTW if you know of an easier way of getting up from a seated position without making lots of grunting sounds, please let me know. LOL

On my 98, the parking brake switch has a Gray/Black wire that runs to the Brake Warning Pressure switch that is right under the knee panel. You can access that if you are a contortionist and feel like trying to crawl onto the floorboard and look up under the panel, or might be easier to remove the panel itself, just a few screws and work from under the steering column. Might be different color wire combo for the 01', but schematic should be the same. Either way, it may allow you to splice into the parking brake switch without removing the console

toggle switch to ground. that's all it should need.
When I installed my ILX-W650 I had to use a PAC TR1 parking brake bypass but it sounds like your phone is just looking for a simple signal.
