Default Locks

I have this problem on both of my XJ's: the rear door(s) do not lock/unlock with the autolocking. They lock manually. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Lock actuators are shot or unplugged? Could also be the driver's side switch, they are wired in series, so if something is wrong on the driver's switch, they won't work on the individual switches either. Pull the door panel off and see what you have going on in there.

the back ones do not get used as much as the front ones, and tend to get gunked up alot quicker. open the door take off the inner panel and then remove the lock/door hinge mechanism. then soak it in some degrease and clean the hell out of it with some brake cleaner. then when it is all clean WD40 the hell out of it, wipe off the outside and put it back in should work 10 times better

After digging around in the door panel I found out the following:

The left side rear door has a wire that is not connected to anything, and the corresponding wire on the right side is connected to something that is non-existant on the left. No noise is made on the left suggesting there is no electricity to the actuator.

I do not know which part is actually the actuator and don't know how to get it out of the Jeep so I can't clean it *noob* so is it on the bottom in the center of the door, or is it somewhere else, and how do I get it out?

My next choice is taking it to a repair shop/dealer and having them fix it for absurd amounts of money.
