lockers with 242
so how does a 242 perform with a locker? I just swapped in a 242 to use in the rain and snow, and now im to the point in my build where im looking at lockers. Im concerned how the truck will behave with full time 4wd and lockers....basically am I stuck with running a selectable locker?

Wouldn't a selectable be a spool (no diff) when engaged (and miserable on the street) and when disengaged be just a plain old open diff? If u had a auto locker in the rear, it would never know if u were in 2wd or 4wd.

a 242, and a 231 will work the same way with or without lockers, the only difference is there is an open center diff option for pavement/slight wet conditions for the 242.
a 231 has 2wdH ,4wd H, and 4wd L,
a 242 has the same options but also has full time 4wd which allows it to spin at different speeds front to back, and not cause damage while on pavement/dry terrain that is not loose.
A locker only controls the axle shaft speed variation. if locked it will be equal speed/power at both wheels even when turning. which transfer case will not change this.
I have a rear locker (spartan) full time lunch-box and a NP242. its fine, just clicks and chirps tires when turning under acceleration at low speeds (it would do the same thing with a 231). you aren't limited to selectable lockers, however a selectable front would be a good choice for easier turning offroad and winter driving.

so if I run a selectable up front. then an auto one in the rear.
when in 2wd, I can have the selectable open, so theres no stress turning. then the rear would still give me a 'posi' type traction.
in 4wd pt I would lock the front, and be good to go
the problem is in 4wd FT. the tcase should work like an open diff. so the end with the least traction gets the power, so all the power is gonna go right to the front and I basically have a one wheel squeal FWD jeep?
but with selectable front and rear, it lets me be fully locked offroad, fully open like stock in 4FT, and still give me the option to lock the rear in 2wd for launching, or pulling etc.

what im say is in full time 4wd with a auto locker in the rear, wont the tcase act as an open diff? then the rear wheels are gonna be the ones with all the restriction, so then the power is gonna go to the front. then the front diff is also gonna split the same way so ill have one front tire that spins.
isnt that how it would work?
