I was wondering if I should put a locker in my Dana 35 or not. I remember seeing something that these rear axles aren't that strong and it's not a good idea but, I was a bit confused because others said they have used them with out any problems. What should I do and if I can or it would be okay to put one in, which would be the better choice?
Thanks for the help

no... waste... cost less to find a ford 8.8 with limited slip... AND then youll get free disc brakes and 3.73 or 4.11 or 4.56 gears depending on what you find...
$100 for JY 8.8
$120 for ruff stuff axle swap kit
$50 to weld in or free if you do
= $270 totale... DIY mostly... easy...

If you looking for more traction for a DD/ Weekend trail runner on 32" tires or less, Lock It. If your rig is mostly used for Hard core offroading and heavy rock krawling with tire bigger than 32", locking a D35 not a good Idea.

Thank you all for the help and advice.
I don't plan on doing anymore then weekend trail rides here and there and daily driver most of the time. I was only thinking of running 31's 32 max but, since it's going to be my daily driver, I didn't want to go too crazy and I'm very careful off road. I don't barrel over things and take my time. Would it be better to try and find an 8.25? I know the liberty's have them with ABS. I had an 03 Liberty that I put a Powertrax no-slip in and it did great off road for what I did. Little 2.5 spacer lift with 32" tires.
Had a lot of fun with it.

I am running a locked d35 right now and wheel only on weekends and don't really do much crazy stuff.... like deep mud or water. Mostly just trails. Mine is also my DD. I have had zero trouble with my d35 being locked and running my 31's. My trouble has come from my locker being possessed or something and taking itself apart while inside the diff. I also don't treat my lifted jeep as a hot rod either so that has helped a lot.

1.25in from what i understand... so yeah just alittle bit... so add a half in on either side and it should be fine... if you already have aftermarket wheels with some backspacing you probly wont even notice it... probly wouldnt notice with stock wheels either but im not sure if this will bring them in close enough to rub... depends on tires i guess... still strong as a D44 but better because of the additional features... i just lined and welded up new spring perches on my ford 9" and its really not that hard for a rear axle conversion... its the front thats tricky...
