@zerocherokee...
I too used frams for years with no apparent problems on all my vehicles but then again I didn't have the vehicles where I could put an additional 100k on each of them, I will never use fram again after seeing, reading and hearing many war stories...
check out you tube where people cut them open and see how they've collapsed.. I'll see if I can dig up one link in particular..
WIX for me..

From what I've read, they did used to suck pretty bad, but in the past six years, I haven't had any problems. Too each his own though.

Anything with the Champion/FRAM OEM will fall into the same category. The minimopar page is a great reference. El cheapo parts stores and even some OEM ones are rebranded low end FRAM-types. This includes stuff like Nissan (the one they put on the 370z is just embarassing) and MotoMaster (Canadian Tire house brand).
I say you can usually tell by the price point... up here a NAPA Gold is around $8. If your filter costs less than that, there's a reason why.
ZeroCherokee, I'm glad you haven't personally had any problems recently, but I encourage you to look around here. There are stories of FRAM issues a LOT more recent than 6 years old on this forum. I think you read or remembered it backwards, FRAM actually used to be a decent brand. Lately they are the lowest bidder. I don't care what the product is, you get what you pay for and "cheapest of the cheap" isn't a good philosophy to swear by. That said this is referring to the orange can of death filters with black bedliner on em. Apparently the more expensive ones are decent quality like one would expect.
That's quite normal. Also the gauge isn't 100% accurate, bearing wear differs, and weight of oil will matter. "Below middle" at hot idle (which is actually several minutes after the coolant temp gauge reads ~210ish) and "above middle" at use, increasing with RPM, is just where it should be.

Good answer. You should patent it and keep it handy when someone pops up on here about every 18 hours and shouts, "I LOVE FRAM!".
Will save a lot of typing and bandwidth.
