An easy way to tell the quality of an oil filter is by it's weight. The heavier the filter the better filter materials are in it. I run wix or hastings.

I should add to this a bit - get familiar with FRAM part numbers. This one MotoMaster (and Quaker actually) had their house part number and "(PH8)" after it.

Looks like they are getting away from Fram now. Too many lawsuits I guess.

Not sure they're what they used to be. Walmart also sells the 090 Mopar oil filter. Not real cheap but is good for 5,000 mile oil changes. Only for the later Jeeps 91 on though. Nothing for Renix.
Seems like if you wanna be sure, go with Wix or Napa Gold.

I've been using purolator on my xj and on my girlfriend's toyota, they are alot heavier than fram's, with no problems here. Subaru uses them as OEM parts, I'm a big fan of subarus, they seem to know what they're doing.

Oil filter manufacturers make oil filters for different clients to the client's specs. Purolator may make a really good filter for Subaru, but an inferior one for the parts stores. Just sayin'.
And, saying you've had no problems with teh Purolators doesn't mean you are not incurring internal damage as you drive.
The guys with Frams had no idea until the catastrophe occured.

Hmmm, never thought about that actually. With the way corporations run nowadays, only caring about profit and their ceo's outrageous pay at the expense of their employees, I wouldn't put it past them. What we really need here, is an industry insider, or a pissed off employee, that would get things rolling and show us the real truth. I may just switch to napa gold next oil change...
