Default Lifter noise

Is valve lifter like clicking noise common on a 94 SE 4.0 engine?

A very experienced local mechanic says his son had one just like my 94 and they changed lifters and also did a valve job and still could not cure it.

I have always hear good results by substituting a quart of oil with marvel mystery oil. Quieted my lifters almost immediately

All that sitting on a cam with worn lobes, and rockers, and pivots no doubt.

Every tick is not the same.

What brand of oil filter are you using?

Ever shined a light into the oil filler hole to assess sludge buildup?

as long as your 4.0 doesn't sound like a Cummins, then you are fine. Most 4.0's are a little noisy. But like stated earlier, all ticks are different. Post an idle video up and you will get better answers.

Mine sounds like two skeletons making love on a tin roof but runs like new. Every 4.0 I have owned or been around are noisy.

My 98 with 145k is absolutely free of those noises. No special treatments and a variety of different filters and oil brands over 6 years of ownership. I would suggest that something is worn beyond normal tolerances if you have metallic noises.
