valve lifters
are the valve lifters accessible without pulling the head?
can the lifter be replaced with correct tool?
i have changed lifters in an old ford V8 without doing so.
just trying to find out the clean and easy way.

That knock might be loose bolts from the torque converter to flex plate. Always a good thing to check on a 4.0, common problem there.
