ok, so first off, I'm sure this '90 xj is still riding on its factory suspension, minus the shocks i replaced. that made a big difference. my question, where and what brand replacement parts do y'all prefer? I'm not looking for any lift, but if it picks it up a little bit, i have no issue with it. i want to be able to pull my little 5x8 trailer without an issue. i know bushings are worn out as well, so i know they will be replaced at the same time. i wouldn't mind the suspension being a little beefier either, but its not really a big deal. I'm not using this beast to climb or play in the mud. just back and forth to the ranch, driving through everything out there, and thats about it. it will work to its potential, and thats about it. thanks ahead of time for your input

 

If you want you can get new coil springs, they don't usually sag much though, you can get heavy duty stock height leaf springs to help with the trailer pulling. People usually report around an inch lift, but may settle some.

 

any suggestion on brands or where a more preferred place to buy is?

 

I've heard good about Dorman and crown automotive. But wherever you can find it cheapest at that time. Heard rock auto sometimes, sometimes Amazon, and I'm not sure many other places.

I was looking into the Dorman or Crown leafs with Moog coils. If you go with the factory specified replacement for the up country Cherokee it will lift some. But be careful and look closely the leafs may come without bushings so incorporate the bushing into the price. It may be just as cheap by the time you buy the leafs and bushing separately. I was looking at Amazon when I was planning my purchase. I ended up going with a spacer/shackle lift instead due to price at the time.

I had the rear leafs replaced with stock leafs by Crown. They fixed the sagging and the side to side rolling on the road.

But with that said I wish I had found a heavy duty set rather than stock. They wouldn't hurt on the highway, and would sure help with a load attached.

If I were still on the farm I would not get the stock springs, not the way we used to overload the trailer. But you would never do that....? lol HD for the win---Worth the extra money. I was in a hurry.

 

Have you thought about saving some money on the front springs by using some salvaged from a grand Cherokee? There's a thread on this site about what parts fit from different vehicles. Might be as cheap as 20$ from a junkyard. New black high temp primer and bang.

Then you can use your funds for buying new back springs. Or... you can go with a used pair of those, from an s10 I think. Both should give you 2 inches of lift. Please look it up to verify though.

Little extra work. Lots of savings. Same end result. And you can brag about making it yourself...

 

only problem with that is it lifts because of the higher spring rate not more coil and more arch. That would result in a lot stiffer of a ride.

 

For all bushings I'd go with Energy Suspension's poly master kit.
I think it's $105 on Amazon.

I replaced my stock leaf springs with these. I have been extremely happy with the results. Brought the back end up from about 2.5" of sagging back to stock height. I've already tested them with a 1500lb load of bricks, and they did fine.
