Default Lift question

thanks for the welcome everyone. i'm on my 3rd xj, but i've left them all alone cuz i didn't wanna get carried away, cuz jeeps tend to do that. Just Empty Every Pocket right?

anywho, my xj daily driver now i put a 2" budget boost on cuz it needed new shocks, might as well go bigger right? anyway, the stock springs are pretty tired, has 116k now, i wanna replace springs and ditch the bb. question is:

how much can you go without changing d shaft, and slip yoke on xj. wranglers i got down pat, but xj's i figured i'd ask some cherokee folk. it is my daily driver, and i'm building a wrangler frame off, so i don't wanna go crazy on my xj. i was thinking 4", can i do that without spending 1500 bux? i still wanna wheel it from time to time.

thanks in advance.

It all depends on your specific jeep, its hard to say something exact because too many times we are proven otherwise. I would buy the 4" lift and if you get vibes then go for the SYE. Just be prepared for it.

You might also be able to get by with degree wedges on the rear to adjsut to proper angles...not that it will work for sure but have seen it work before..like Kyle said all depends on your jeep...

how about 3"? same deal, depends or are you usually safe then?

i was gonna drop the t case, and i was expecting a skid plate like a wrangler but no such luck. there's a stud and a bolt. what do you do about the stud when lowering the t case?

At 3" you are probably going to be on the safer side, many people get away without a SYE on a 3" lift but again its hard to say one way or the other.

I don't have an SYE on my 3.5" lift. I also don't have vibes either.

I SHOULD get an SYE due to not having enough d-shaft engagement.

But it really depends on the individual XJ. Not everyone is the same. But Earlier models seem to be more tolerant of lifts with less vibes.

I had a 3" on my 98' and needed the TC drop and did not remove the stud. The drop I got was not cut all the way thruogh for the stud just cut through for the others bolts. Now I am awaiting the arrival of my SYE for my 4.5" lift. Like everyone has said it all depends on what your XJ likes/ wants.
