Hey guys I work with a guy who races stock cars for fun. He has a lot of Lexan around the house. He said I could have it if I wanted it. I was thinking of replacing all the glass in the jeep. Your thoughts? Pros & Cons?

I'm not sure if lexan is stronger than glass? I think they use it for weight saving not sure? I would say its too much work for a daily driver. I guess the plus is that cherokee windows are all flat...except the front.

Lexan is the brand name for polycarbonate sheet and resin in a wide range of grades. Applications are mainly in three domains — building (glazing and domes), industry (machine protection and fabricated parts) and communication and signage. Common usages include space and sports helmets, clear high performance windshields and aircraft canopies, and bullet resistant windows.

I work in the glass industry and unless you have a purpose for changing them out, I wouldn't. While Lexan is lighter than glass and in the correct thickness can be bullet resistant, it is also "softer" than glass. What this means to you is that while going down the trail and a tree limb scrapes down the Lexan, you are going to be left with a deep scratch that will not be able to be removed. Glass is better for trails because as long as something does not just slam it head on, it will not scratch or break. Lexan may not break but it scratches VERY easily. Hope this helps

this info was very helpful, I know lexan scratches easily. I was thinking of having it covered with clear bra. I have another friend who works at a tint shop.
