Anyone know if the wiring harness that goes through the driver's side door to control power window and door lock switch control pad/panel... is sold as a complete unit somewhere?
I've got a short in at least one of the wires in that bundle from years of use opening/closing the door. The obvious one is the one that goes to the motor for the electric window. Motor works, but if I have the window/door lock control plugged in for even a short length of time, that motor starts heating up something fierce even when not actively using the window control.
No obvious cracks in the wire insulation anywhere.

If I read it right, these are the part numbers.
#56009820 w/Power Mirrors, Left Door
#56009821 w/Power Locks, Left Door
Looks like Deadjeep has one.

Lots of people, including myself, complaining that DeadJeep taking weeks to ship, and what you get does not match the picture on their website or eBay listing. See the thread mentioned at https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/dea...m-dead-267849/ for the details of my experience.

Having been in my doors the one part number for power locks and separate part number for mirrors is confusing me.
Now pretty sure that even a manual window XJ comes with power mirrors.
So that makes sense to me that there is a separate harness for that.
But thinking the power lock one should say power locks/mirrors/windows.
Cause best I can tell is that everything is on that one harness that goes through that rubber tube into the passenger compartment.
And connects somewhere behind the hood release.
Also I see front door harnesses on a pretty regular basis on Ebay too.

thanks for the heads up on that one.... I'll weigh my options... honestly, I've dealt with not having my creature comfort controls for months and months... so if they will actually ship (just late)... not going to cry about it. lol.
The driver window went straight down when the short happened... got it to go back up and then disconnected the control switch and put it on the shelf in my garage. I know at least the driver door speak wire is compromised as I can hear it short out as I open/close the door...... then head unit quit...so no radio or power windows from the driver side for about a year. Good thing I don't listen to music much when driving anyways. lol
I'm pretty sure it's a short because the motor still works, but maybe the resistance from possibly shorted wires was causing an issue. At that point I didn't think the motor was the issue... and have just left it disconnected for like the last year...because I haven't had time to get to it.

Cruizer... I would if I could.... but with all the other projects stepping to the front of the line, the XJ always gets the back burner.... just no time

I'm confused.
The old harness has to come out to put a new harness in.
why not take the old harness out and fix it in less time than it takes to find one, order it, walk out to the mailbox ang get it. Assuming it's the correct part.

But automotive wiring isn't my strong suite. For one I don't even have a multi-meter yet. With other things taking priority over the Jeep most of the time, just doesn't leave me much time to master that skill as well.
Okay Cruiser... you got me.... now I have to say it in front of everyone lol.... If you need an engine rebuilt or a body repaired, or pretty much anything else mechanical I'm your guy. and I'm good at figuring it out on my own and doing it correctly for the mechanical things I don't already have experience with as well.

My buddy who is pretty good with that stuff taught me a thing or two.
Basically you will just pull the harness and check each wire for continuity.
At least that is what I think.
Don't hear the beep and you found a bad wire.
LOL.
Having some electronics and mechanical skills myself, I often take it for granted that people understand the basics. You can tell when asking "did you check for continuity to ground" results in a very confused look. You'd be amazed at how well plumbing analogies work when trying to explain things, like seeing voltage on wire doesn't mean it's all good (a kinked hose has pressure until you open the sprayer nozzle, etc).
But seriously, a little knowledge and a meter is incredibly valuable and can save you from replacing perfectly good parts with crappy chinese parts.

No problem. I know lot's of folks who can work miracles with mechanical stuff but "seize up" over the thought of anything electrical. I can do electrical and mechanical stuff but suck at body work.
