Question Leaky Valve Cover..

My '91 XJ has a small leak in the valve cover seal. Now, would a leak in this seal cause a loss of 1 at of oil per 520 miles? That's what I'm currently dealing with. I don't ever find oil on the road under my rig, so I just figure it's burning off somewhere. Any ideas otherwise?

Also, my mechanic (I know, but Im sadly not mech savy.. needed help) said he would redo the seal.. is it hard to do at home?

Sorry, I meant 'qt', not 'at'. 1 qt every 520 miles. One more thing.. is it hard to replace injector o-rings?

half hour of your time and a gasket is all the valve cover takes. your gonna have to bend the pinch seam on the firewall to get the bolt outta the valve cover on the driver's side though.
injectors o-rings are just as easy. need a fuel/trans line tool though. then you just remove the fuel rail w/ the injectors attached.

thanks for the help guys. But does anyone know the answer to my other question? Would a leaky VC cause the oil burn off I am experiencing?

except during warm-up, no. When I first start her up in the morn, I usually let it idle outside for about 10 mins.. and during that time she will put out smoke (less when its warmer, more when its colder.. I just figured it was hot exhaust, cold air)

My VC wasnt leaking, I took it off to paint it so I really have no experience with how much oil it would leak. 1qt/520Mi sounds like alot and I would suspect bad rings. Maybe someone that has had a valve cover leak can post up..
