Im a car noob, and I know very little. Lets get right to the point. My 1991 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L is leaking tranny fluid. I tried the liquid fix stuff, didn't work. Today I've been trying to get the leak to stop, and I just can't figure it out.
Its leaking from here(pics) where the 2 hose clamps are, I've taken them off, re-tightened, tried various levels of tightness, and I even cut about 1/2'' of the rubber hose off thinking it was just old and messed up. But no avail.
Could anyone help me please? I got to work tomorrow, and my job depends on my vehicle.

can you get the hose slid over the flare on the steel line? I would go for that and then a clamp on each side.
I didn't think of that, I tried to do that, sort of... LOL Not a good explaination but, I may be able to if I worked the rubber hose a bit, its really stiff. So I should attempt to make the hose get over the little ***** or whatever, on the steel?

Thats what I would try to do. Then get a clamp on each side of the flare and see if you still have leaks.
Well, I tried to get the hose over the metal piece, but it wouldn't budge. I resorted to taking a piece of garden hose, putting it over the rubber hose, over the steel notches, and then clamped on both sides, like you suggested.
It stopped leaking!!!
But for how long? I shouldn't leave it jerry-rigged like this should I? For how long? Heres some pics to let you guys know what I did(with a visual) Was I wrong to do this? Please; any comments?

I should also mention, I ended up stripping my two hose clamps that were originally on the hose, and I ended up using 2 slightly larger hose clamps I had in the garage. Again, all input would be greatly appreciated!

I give you an A for effort! You will be ok for now but when you get a chance
Oh they are quick connect type fittings you have too push the hose IN then squeeze the tabs then pull out. Try using a long needle nose pliers.

Kudos to you! that will get you rolling, but you really should replace the lines.I blewa trans line on my last jeep at about 5am on a -20 degree day, wasn't much fun sittin on the side of the road.......Originally Posted by Mkeeley86

giant A for effort, good shade tree mechanic work. Garden hose is probably not going to be a good long term solution, its not designed for hot hydraulic oil. You can probably get some transmission fluid hose at any auto parts store that is the same size as the garden hose. Good luck.

I drove around tonight and its still leak-free. I am very happy that I figured this out, big big thanks to all you guys.I am such a car newbie, I couldn't tell you a Radiator from an oil filter.

You guys really are the best!
Now all thats left to fix, is my entire front end... and I also need to replace the steering column and the rear windshield wiper(which was snapped off).
Judging by the looks of the front end, Is it even worth trying to fix?
