What? FSM specifies using a 195 degree thermostat in all climates to maintain an operation temp of 210 +- 10 degrees

I haven't seen the 200-210 notation in in my 99 FSM cooling system section, but
if it's there, I stand corrected.

They could have changed it. My 95 FSM states that.

Default No heat

In line six engines with over 150000 miles will need a new water pump. Pump vanes are made of pressed sheet metal and corrode away. No heat could mean not enough flow to the heater core.

Yup that got replaced along with a new 180 t-stat and a new housing for it.

I'm having the same issue with no heat coming out. It will start off just fine for about 30 sec but then it just goes to straight up cold air.

I recently replaced my radiator due to an overheat and a crack but I did not replace the t-stat or water pump...

now no heat, and leaking coolant near the h2o pump. Gonna swap out t-stat and h2o pump this weekend and hopefully will fix my coolant leak and my heat.

I'll keep you posted :-)

So I finally was able to get my jeep in the shop and did a heater core flush with compressed air and Preston's flush kit. Worked great pulled all the gunk and crap out of the lines and all. Now I have to turn down my heat because it works so well.

Reviving this thread because I finally got around to flushing the heater core. I used water pressure, eventually adding prestone flush, letting it sit and getting more dirty stuff out of it. Kept flushing back and forther until water ran clear in either direction.

Hooked everything back up, added coolant as needed. Running temps right around 210, sometimes lower, just a bit higher when slow going. Aux fan kicks in and seems to control the heat ok.

So... the air when heater is on seems like it is trying to be warm, but ain't quite hacking it. I would say a bit waarmer than body temp. Perhaps a little better than before, but still not right.

Next steps? Any other thoughts?

Thanks for all your help.

John

Definitely better, but still not winter worthy, even here in NC...
