Default KYB Monomax shocks

yesterday I installed some KYB Monomax on a stock 95 cherokee and have to say SHOCKS need to be replace more often than people think. Blisteins might be better but for the price these are very good.
I got these from the Shockwarehouse but then find them on Amazon for a bout 40$ cheaper a set of 4. $178 shipped
it actually raised the jeep up alittle also.

Wouldn't think so. But with VERY WEAK springs and shocks charged at 280+psi.........

Anyways,I've had Monomax on my '96 for 3yrs or so. Perfect for what I needed a shock to do. GREAT price at Amazon by the way.

+1, If you try to lift the rear of a Cherokee with shocks, you will punch right through the floorpan.

Maybe some BAD floorpans. Gabriel offers their Hijacker air adjustable shock for the XJ.

In a modern suspension system the springs are designed to carry the load and shock absorbers are there to dampen/lessen the oscillation of the spring. I guess if one wanted to they "could" do a budget lift using muffler clamps holding up extended shock absorbers, would not work either well, nor long.

Considering that you did buy the shocks from the link this link, you very may well have gotten some added height to the vehicle as those shocks are not meant for your year. As to the Mono Max shocks, I have them on my 96 stock XJ and I will say they are a great shock but way way over kill for a vehicle as light as the Cherokee is that is if you don't carry any weight in it.

The height is about the same after driving.

Rockauto.com has the same part # for a 95 XJ so I went by the part numbers on Amazon as it listed a 97 and above.
EZ installed and ride is better on the street. Havent drivin on logging roads Yet.

Rockauto has the monomax as a cheaper shock then the Gas A Just.Figure that one?
The KYB site says the Monomax is a "Gas A Just" on steroids. I know back in the Day the Gas A just was used on Datsun 510 Rally Cars So figured KYB would be good enough on a stock height XJ. I know Bilsteins are about 360 psi but didnt think I needed that good a shock for just a logging road Jeep. Price is good at 179 shipped. My buddy says only get Blisteins but I think this is a good alternative people should look at. As I wasnt impressed with Ranchos(just my opinion).
Im new to Jeeps so not a real shock expert as Im into Datsun 510s and run coilover setups and the old orange Koni D retraction adjustable type shocks. So Im used to a firmer ride in my vehicles. and going to the XJ I tought I was going to roll over when I 1st got this thing. Maybe softer is better for a true offroad vehicle. But then seeing the spec on the Bilsteins I said WOW.
