kicked in door
ok so the other night i went muddin and my jeep is completely covered in mud, well later that night i went to a friends house so they could drive me to a party. i went to pick up my jeep in the morning to find out there are drawing in the mud and my passenger door is kicked in. i cant open the door at all and its my only way into my jeep i popped the dent out with a plunger but it wont unlock with the key or the switch. is there any way i can get it opened to fix it. i have to climb through the hatch just to open my door now.

You are going to need to remove the door panel and find out what is stopping the door lock from opening.
Does your Jeep have manual or electric door locks....?
Check the linkage and the connector for the solenoid.....

you need to lift it higher so no one can reach their leg that high.
x2 on removing the inner panel to find the lock rod popped off.
does the lock work via the thumb button?

That really sucks, my condolences to you and your XJ.
I've been able to remove the door panel from the inside in the past, need to remove the handles 1st, peel from the bottom up, lift the top straight up as it latches just below the window, should be able to then reach in to the latch mechanism. Once you get it open perhaps you can knock the dent back out from the inside. Even as a temporary measure, call it a trail scar.
If you do some day find the one responsible it would not be in good taste to suggest perhaps use them as a battering ram to pop the dent.

On my 90, if you open the passenger door and look forward down there in the crack you can see an angled slot on the front door. With a long screw-driver push DOWN inside the slot.

???? If it's a 4 door I think you can open it by pushing down inside that slot. You can see what it looks like better on the other side.
EDIT>>>Oh...I meant open the rear door to get at the back of a front door. The rear door has the slot also, but will take a custom bent tool to get in there. Again you can see it in the other side.

Side Rant: I can't stand punks who do this type of crap. Both my '91 XJ and '07 Focus have had key marks scratched onto them. Then one day I went outside to find a dent in the lower portion of the fender. I think I'm going to fab up a steel skeleton for the inside of the body, so when ****** try to kick or hit anything, they find out real quick that steel is stronger than bone. I'm also going to have live current flowing through the body, so when people try to scratch it or key it, they get the **** shocked out of them.
Rant Over. Im sorry, but crap like this just irritates me. I hope you get the door fixed. Good luck to ya.
