Default Key wont turn, steering wheel wont lock... WTF?

I took my XJ out to run errands, no issues, the next day the key won't turn at all..... I noticed that the wheel won't lock either when I turn it while the car is off.... Is this a common problem that I can fix easily?

Why is it that my old 91 xj almost never gave me a single problem with 285k milesb on it and my 98 is one BS problem after another.

Anyways, does anyone have a solution for me?

Sounds like your key cylinder needs to be replaced.

had that problem in the winter...actually for two winters. wd helped but the cylinder is no good. I give it a short sharp wack with a pliers and it works....lol...or i can just hit it with my hand and it works. Get it replaced but if you need it to work...give it a try, just don't hit it hard...

Thx for the info, I gave it a good whack with the butt end of a screw driver a few times and it worked.
