Default Key Fob issues

Got a 2000 XJ and I just recently had issues with the door locks not locking from the door or the remote fob. I would press the buttons on the fob and the interior dome light will flicker and the passenger door will make noise but it would not unlock the car.

Today I replaced the passenger side door lock but just prior to doing that.. I pressed the key fob but it did not trigger the dome light as I unlocked it.

after the swap of the passenger side unit. The door locks now work from inside the car but the key fob its not responding. I tried both remotes and no luck. also all the fuses are checking up just fine. Any ideas on what else I could check ? thx in advance.

Wires in the door jamb. They tend to crack and break. My 99 does the same thing from time to time.

Could also be the battery in the fob.

I checked the wires in the door jamb ....they are all intact as far as I can tell.

Battery was replaced about a yr ago and they both check out fine at those free test stations.

Not sure what else could it be

Key fob buttons could be going kaput

How exactly did you check the wires though? You sound unsure. Lol. I don't think ANY 97+ xj exist without at least one broken wire in the front doors.

I ran some speaker wire for my component set..through the grommet..not sure is thats the correct name ..But all wires look fine upon inspection.

as far as I understand it the remote sensor works off the dome light. How can that be tested?

The 97+ remotes use RF I think. I haven't got a clue where it would be. I assume if you have OHC (overhead console) then its there, if not the dome light sounds likely. I haven't had mine apart though.

Try changing the battery before you do anything else.
