just shuts off for a few seconds
Hi all,
have a 95 Cherokee, high miles(318k+) normally runs great but lately every once in a while it just shuts off. only for a few seconds. It's like I;m driving along and the key turns off and then I coast and then it comes back on. I know its electrical but I cant determine just what it is. If any body can help I sure would appreciate it.

There certainly are a number of possibilities, but one of them is that your "crankshaft position sensor" is starting to fail. It is a VERY common failure on the 4.0
Do you know the history of this vehicle? Has the crank sensor ever been replaced? Have you ever seen a check engine light? If so, you must retrieve codes for clues.
If you do end up replacing the crank sensor, do yourself a BIG favor and buy a genuine MOPAR crank sensor from Jeep. Well worth the few extra bucks in reliability and longevity.
