Default just one more overheating thread-

Alright, so i got this awesome condition 94 cherokee. Bought it, drove it 300 miles home, been driving it for about 5 days- Everything ran perfect- and yesterday while stopped checking mail after a 30 minute straight drive through the city- BAM i look up at the hood and im smoking- Get to level ground, stop it- coolant pouring out of the radiator cap....

Alight, I suspected a crappy cap, I go and get another. Refill my coolant, burp the system.... There are no leaks, but its still overheating....WTF?

Could it have cause a build of pressure or another component of the cooling system to tap out?

Burping is only for closed cooling systems . Does it over heat when driving or stop and go traffic ?

I just checked the pressure, it does have a leak- it sounds like its coming from the upper radiator hose- I tried to seal it with a hose clamp like 50 times, you think its possible to have a split in the plastic at the radiator where the hose meets??? I can't see anything but I CANNOT get it to hold and all the noise is coming from the connection-

I really dont feel like replacing the radiator. oh jeeps....

It overheats both. when i cranked it this morning it got to 260 without moving. After I played around with connections or what not, I drove around block and it was pretty skiddish. It was high for the first mile 2/3 to redline but then settled itself and ran cold..... After another couple miles it went back up again. I think my mans comment about the thermostat might be the answer...among other things

Very possible to have a crack in the plastic replacing it upper and lower hose and thermostat is real good insurance seeing how you just purchased It.

1/4 mark mathematically is 155 and explains the weak heater.....most likely the t-stat has failed open or it's missing.

That ^^ And check operation of your fan clutch and electric aux fan while you're under the hood.

Oh, FYI It's now November...you are supposed to be posting about your heater not working. Overheating season is May-October.

In place of "oh jeeps", u can insert just about any '94 make/model vehicle. Old car maintenance is not unique to Jeeps (even though sometimes it seems like it).

Yeah, hmmmm. I love jeeps, this is my second one after an 89' manche'. friends have wranglers and cherokees.... and work uses old fords and chevys-

I gotta say, when it comes to a water pump (cooling system in general) random leaks in the cab and general quirks that like to show up every couple of months- but are always usually less than a day and >300$ fix.... jeeps got em all beat. That 4.0 will run forever, its just making sure everything else around it does too- especially keeping it cool ;-)

its a jeep thing. I will continue my love for jeeps, but they really will teach anyone the basic mechanics of a vehicle... because its either that or be stranded.

I would take any jeep across the country. just not without some oil, a 13mm wrench, some rtv and a water pump.....
