Before cutting anything, what temps r u seeing?

I havent figured that out yet lol. Probably gonna order the gauge today or tomorrow. By 'seeing', I meant by other posters' reported temps.

Hell I dont even know if the tstat in this cooler is 180. No definitive answer. Call Ford maybe?

Can u post some close up pics of the cooler and maybe the stat location?
Again, My suggestion is not hack anything until lots of driving with a tranny fluid temp gauge just to see where fluid temps float.

Like I said previously, tranny fluid temps in our other vehicles (no gauge in the XJ) r very slow to rise, run substantially lower than engine coolant temp most of the time and tranny fluid temp is much more affected by ambient temp than coolant temp is affected by ambient. In cool/mild weather, tranny fluid temp can easily hover at 80F-90F.....or 100-110 degrees below coolant temp. It just depends on how much/how long u drive for tranny fluid temp to rise where as coolant temp will go from ambient temp to operating temp within minutes. This is what I see in our other 2 vehicles by having a gauge that displays below 100.
