Got another skid put on today.

Installation was little bit of a PITA. The holes on the crossmember behind the bumper were too small for the bolts i had so i had to drill them out larger. Then getting my large hands through all the steering parts to bolt the rear part of the skid on the frame rail was very difficult. I ended up taking the front bumper off and it made it so easy. There are 3 access holes on the crossmember. I couldn't bolt on the back side on the driver's side because there was a nut on the inside of the frame rail and i'm not sure what thread or bolt size it is. I thought it would attach to the same bolt on the sway bar but it didn't and the sway bar bolt wouldn't fit in that nut either. I left it unbolted there but it's pretty solid without it.
It may not be protecting my tie rod but at least everything else is safe behind that.

This is a bit funny cuz i am installing part after part and skid after skid but have zero off road miles under my belt so far. I guess i'm using my experience from wheeling my tj and preparing the xj so it's bulletproof before it's initial run.
I need a gas tank skid now......

I may repeat history with the xj. My very first time off roading in my tj was the cause of my mud addiction. I had my window down and head out and got completely covered in mud, including a big chunk in my mouth. I guess i have to do that in the xj on it's first time out.....mmmmmmmmm.
