Those are the same type of self tapping bolts I used on my Rustys offroad tc skid that go into the subframe/unibody. They work great. On my tc skid there is also 2 bolts that go thru the trans. crossmember but then I have a ZJ with a 242 tc.

i was supposed to have them painted and installed today with pictures but got sidetracked by another project. While backing into my mother's garage (she's out of town for a week so she lent me the big garage
), i got the annoying "pop pop pop pop pop" as i turned. Dang tires were rubbing
. After a couple hours measuring and trimming up front, i finally got two coats of paint on that skid but called it a night. At least i solved the rubbing problem. I hope i get this done within the next 3 years.......

I FINALLY got around to putting on the skids. I did the transfer case and engine skids but ran out of time and didn't get the front skid put on. The t-case skid i got off ebay was sweet. It bolted right up and it protects the entire transfer case. No issues with it.
Rusty's crappy skid was a PITA though. It would not fit without a bunch of tweaking and cutting. First the bracket that goes from control arm to control arm would not come close to fitting. I had to bend the factory CA brackets so they were straight in order to get the skid bracket to even come close to aligning up. Once i got it "good enough" and mounted i tried to install the skid itself but whatdoyaknow, the exhaust is in the way. I still have the factory exhaust and it would NOT fit rusty's skid unless i cut the exhaust or the skid so i chose to cut the skid. I made to slices down the side and hammered the piece down out of the way. It just BARELY fits but the location for the two middle bolts (in the middle of the skid) makes the nuts on the other side hit the exhaust pipe and it rattles me insane in the cab. I gotta do something about that now but i don't feel like taking it off again. It's a pita. I learned one thing from this: don't buy rusty's stuff
Here's some pictures.

You can see where i had to cut the skid in order for the exhaust to clear it.

Both oil and t-case skids on

I'm gonna cover up that name...

Next up is the front skids. I need some bolts, paint, and then it'll go on.
