Talking Junkyard tools, intake manifold question?

Trying to set up a junk yard tool box.

wondering what you guys take with you on the regular, like whats always in there and what you add for special jobs.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm going to get an intake manifold for my 97, want to get a hold of one from 99-2001. any opinions on that. I believe the air flow is better in the later models. They look more rounded off.

Has anyone replaced there intake many with a later model and noticed any difference.

Sorry so long, and thank you.

Dyno results in this myth busting article indicate -5hp on a '98. I've always understood a long straight shot was better so after the initial turn, can't get much straighter than the old style manifold.

Here is why I ask.
I also spent some extra $270 on a new '99-to-'06 intake manifold. The newer manifold design has improved air passages to the head and improves the efficacy of the mixture. It has been rumored to give between 10 and 20 hp to a 1998-or-older 4.0L engine.

and here is the link to the article

torx bits. (reverse torx if I need a tcase)

Sometimes a hacksaw.

I try to keep it minimal. Same as my trail tools.

I have a bag that I use for my junk yard runs. In it everything has it's spot.
Here's a list of the contents

3/8ths ratchet
8mm-19mm sockets for said ratchet
1/4 ratchet
8mm-4mm sockets
Set of combination wrenches 6mm-22mm
pliers
wire cutters
channel locks(tounge and groove pliers)
vise grips
straight slot screw driver long and stubby
phillips screw driver long and stubby
big honkin adjstable wrench
allen wrenches that are connected ala swiss army knife
set of torx bits for the ratchets.

The bag is big enough to throw in any special tools I might need that day like a cordless drill, cordless recip saw(sawz all type) etc etc.

I don't worry too much about the weight cause I just throw it in the wheel barrow and head out into the yard.

I'm of the mind I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

All the wrenches and sockets and such have holders with designated spots so I don't worry about leaving a tool behind.

Maybe that's why the article I linked is titled "Myth Busting" or maybe rumor busting. One article says "lost 5hp on the dyno" other article says rumored 10-20hp gain.

I have an old army medic pack that I keep all of my junk yard tools in. It is a backpack so the weight of the tools is much easier to carry.

In addition to the other stuff, I have a 4lb sledge, breaker bar, and deep sockets for my 1/2 inch ratchet

I'm sure they didn't stick a bunch of money into developing a new intake manifold just to lose power. I would need to see more then one dyno to say it is for sure going to yield a loss of power.

Yep, I'd like to see some other apples-to-apples dyno runs but until then, old intake makes 190hp just like the new ones. 1 ah sh_t wipes out 10,000 at-a-boys....1 dyno run wipes out a whole bunch of rumors.

tjwalker's signature pretty well sums it up..."without data, all you have is opinion". Gotta love it.

so for a 25 dollar intake from the jy you wouldn't at least try it?
