Default Junkyard Question

Im looking for a bolt on hitch.
Would any Grand Cherokees fit my 96 Cherokee country?
Just wanting to know what my options are when searching.

Thanks

No. Just 86-96 Cherokee.

So 97-01 changed the bolt position?

From what I've seen yes.

Don't think that is the case. I just pulled the hitch and nut strip off my 98 parts XJ and replaced the rusted one on my 92. Bolted up the same as the stock 92 hitch.

So hopefully any XJ should work on a 96 XJ?

But absolutely no ZJ will fit?

Can't answer for sure. If you would like I can take a picture of the mounting holes on mine, you could then make a template based off yours and take it to JY with you to make sure.

You should be able to find a hitch at your local junk yard. They're pretty common.

you can just go on any site that sells a hitch new and it should say what years it fits or will work on, or look at the part# for your year and then the # of a newer one. only problem you may have is getting the damn bolts out of the uni body and getting them back in. when you buy a new hitch it comes with a little spring tool to fish them in. i looked around for a used one here in pa but found them to be to rusted for me to use so I picked one up from jcwhitney for like $130 and it came with a drop reciever.

I took one off an 90 and put it on my 97 no problem. Just have to remember to get the bolts out of the "frame" tube. To do that, you have to take the whole damn bumper off.

I stand corrected. Lol
I know a grand Cherokee one won't work tho.
But feel free to prove me wrong. Lol

I have been under a many ZJ to look for this, the Grand Cherokee will not fit. Too wide and the pattern is different. Finding that I had the nut strip on mine was a heck of a relief because I didn't have to put the rest of the bolts in the "frame." Which is a hum dinger. Oh, and as far as price... Got mine at a u-pull yard for $18. It's a drawtite receiver, with ball, hitch, pin, and wiring harness. The guy cut me a hell of a deal. I highly suggest wrench-a-part in Austin, Tx.
