I'd recommend getting a plug in battery voltage tester for your jeep. I got one online for under 15 shipped that has two USB ports. So I can charge my stuff but keep an eye on battery voltage amperage and temperature. Your voltage gauge comes from your pcm but your 12vdc supply comes straight from the battery.
Charge that battery up, and do a load test on it. If you can get it to start auto parts stores will do it for free, and they will test your alternator aswell. But I've heard lots of negative reviews on their testing for them.

My 96 cherokee died while driving down the road. I have tested my battery which completely died which makes me think maybe it's the alternator, but I found a wire underneath that rotted from some type of sensor. Not sure if it's the cause. It's on the driver side on the block. I'm not sure the year on my engine but the previous owner thought it was 98 or 99 but was unsure. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The Cps is located on the 11 o'clock Postion on the bell housing.

I was having similar problems. Changed the crank positioning sensor and fuel pump and didn't help. I ended up changing the coolant temp sensor and the intake air sensor(charge air sensor to some parts stores). Now all is well. Go figure. i thought it was bad gas after the fuel pump and cps but I emptied the tank and refilled still was dying out and wouldn't restart. Is your check engine light on? Have you used a code scanner?

No CEL on so not throwing codes. Pulled the distributor cap off and Rotor was destroyed. Also the connector going to the temp sensor that reads to the panel is melted. It's hasn't been reading for a while so that's go to be the problem there. Headed to the Auto parts store for cap and rotor at lunch.
