Jeep stumbles and dies when starting
Alright so I borrowed the battery out of my buddies 1997 grand Cherokee (5.2v8) the other day to start my truck. Had the battery out for 10-15 minutes. Cleaned up the terminals, and put the battery back in. Went to go start it and it just cranks. Sounds like there is no fuel getting into the cylinders. If you play with the throttle you can get it to start but you gotta keep your foot in it for it to stay running, and it sounds like it is running on one cylinder. Checked the fuel pump relay, and it is good. It was running just fine before I pulled the battery. Thinking it might have something to do with the anit-theft but I don't know much about jeeps so not sure how to check it.

I think he means the CPS is ONE of the suspects.^ Do you hear the fuel pump run for a second when you turn the key on? Also you have a boatload of fuses, some of which are pretty important. Just guessing,#20, #11 #17 &18??
I really don't know.. there are memory and reset issues with your OBD II, (pcm). Don't know if 15 min could get it confused or not. You might try leaving it disconnected overnight or 6 hrs...You might search the issue.
Got spark? Also there is a little goodie like a tire valve on the fuel rail. If you depress it with a key or something a little fuel should spurt out, (into a rag).
Also you can try this below for codes, Idk if it works or not.
Newer (OBDII) models - Put the key into the ignition, push down the odometer reset button, then turn the key to RUN with your finger on the button - and then release the button. The odometer will go through 1111111 through 999999, then display the car's serial number. It will then show the error codes (it might show them starting with P). If this method does not work, try the OBDI method.

You could try checking the TPS (throttle position sensor). I had similar problems with mine not running after starting. The throttle had to be used to start and accelerator pressed a little to keep it going then it was fine after that and while starting it ran pretty rough.
After I replaced my TPS the Jeep started fine.
