Default jeep shutting off

I have a 1988 jeep cherokee inline 6 that will drive all day but around 2000 rpm its like some one turns the key off and while its coasting I can turn the key and it'll start right back up.......I don't know what to do to find the problem

#1 cause of this is a flaky "crankshaft position sensor".

It is the most common sensor failure on the Jeep 4.0

If you buy one, get it from Jeep; worth the extra money. There is no shortage of threads with people having reliability problems with certain (not all) aftermarket crank sensors.

The next two suspects (in this order) would be the ignition coil and the ignition control module located underneath your coil.
