Jeep overheats at stand still
1996 Cherokee over heats when I'm stopped in traffic or when I'm stopped for long periods. Not to sure what the problem could be. Anybody know?

Verify both fans are operating (e-fan should come on around 217 F), but the #1 cause of "temp creep" at idle is the fan clutch.
Often overlooked, inexpensive, easy to replace.

do you have a plastic fan shroud around the metal mechanical fan?

The electric fan should kick on at 217 degrees, but I think you need a fan drive clutch for the engine driven fan.

Mine overheats at idle too. I locked my keys in the car (silly me) and i didnt have a spare key. Long story short had to call someone to pop it open for me. 70 bucks later I get in and my temp gauge was just below red line. It took my jeep about 1 1/2 hours to get to this point and my AC was running at the time. Makes me think that jeeps do this. I am ordering a CSF 3 row radiator....Think this should help and also with trails.

the metal one will run all the time. The plastic one will run when it gets too hot, or when the A/C is on
