Jeep keeps dying
Hey Guys,
I am new to the forum and I am looking for some help. I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic with the 4.0L engine. I keep experiencing an issue when my jeep will just completely die, I don't lose electrical power the engine just shuts off and won't start until it cools down. It will be operating at normal temperature and no warning lights whatsoever come on. This has happened twice now and both times have been at the top of a steep grade at elevation. My initial thought was my tranny was getting hot, causing the engine to shut off, but I don't even know if that is possible. I did recently put on slightly larger tires as well, went from 31's" to 32's". Some one has also mentioned the possibility of vapor lock to me. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this or have any ideas how to fix this. Thanks!
John

I think I recall an issue with the later models with vapor lock. If I understand correctly, the heat from the manifolds causes the fuel to ignite sooner, or something along those lines. Putting some kind of heat shield between the injectors and the manifold I believe was to be the fix. But was your engine overheating?

No problem, it surely seems that might be what is going on. I'm not well educated on that topic, but suggest you research it some more on the forums. Good luck!
