Jeep cranks, doesnt start
Happened first two days ago. Wasn't overheating but for some reason it just died on the highway.
It's like everytime I tried to hit the gas it would die a little.
I waited 10 minutes and it started back up. Did the same thing once more before I got it home.
Went to run an errand and it did it again. This time I had to get it towed back.
What do you think the problem is?
I have e3 spark plugs and a high performance ignition coil on its way.
Can someone explain the crankshaft sensor, what it does and how it can interfere?

The CPS tells the coil WHEN to spark. If I had to guess in the dark... 9/10 times the CPS is going bad.
And when the E3 gimmic plugs get to the store tell them to send them back because you want Champions or NGK and a OEM grade ignition coil.

What year/engine? Always important to know.
I agree that E3 plugs are not a good match for the 4.0 Champion coppers gapped to .035 are all you need for the 87-99. I recommend NGK for the 00-01.
And ditton on the coil. Accel and MSD coils are notorious for premature failure and do nothing for your performance. OEM coil is best choice.
As for the crank sensor, it provides a critical input signal to the computer. Without it, you will not have spark and you will not have fuel going TO the fuel injectors. They are a very common failure. If you buy one, do yourself a big favor and buy a Mopar unit directly from Jeep. Aftermarket crank sensor are "hit and miss" with a lot of miss.
Good luck!

I agree with both lowrange2 and tjwalker. Get rid of those plugs and use champion plugs and OEM coil. I used some of those pricy plugs and my 98 XJ ran like crap.
