Jeep Cherokee start up sequence
This might sound like a silly question, i have a Jeep Cherokee 1998 4l Auto, and when i got it, i was told that when i turn the ignition on, i have to wait for all the lights and beeps on the dashboard to finish?
Is this correct, as it starts much easier if i do not?
Thanks
Rob

not unless it's diesel, lol. BUT, letting the fuel pump build pressure before you start it sometimes makes it start easier.

I have a 98, and no, you don't have to wait. Just turn the key and crank it. As Donnie mentioned, if your fuel pump is getting old it may not pressurize your fuel line fast enough, but if everything is working as it is supposed to, then no worries...

Thanks both! It starts much better without waiting for all the lights to do their checks, it is petrol/LPG, forgot to mention that! And i always start on petrol, and just cranking fires it up straight away.
My Cherokee used to be owned by Quentin Wilson and apparently on fifth gear they stripped it down and rebuilt it, converting it to LPG. All the paper work has his name all over it, it looks like someone had it in for him as the glass has been replaced many times!
I have tried searching for any footage of it on the program but have failed, if anyone does have anything on it, i would be very interested!
Thanks again!

Only had it 4 months and all it needed was a rear electric window mechanism and an electric aerial and i got both parts off ebay £10 and £20 respectively.
But i bought it with these broken, i bought it off a friend and he made sure it was in od working order first and told me about the 2 faulty bits.
