My speedometer and rev counter just stopped working why?

 

too many variables to answer with out more info.

 

Just wondering if it could be fuse should I check there first cant give any more information because this is all new to me sorry

I have this issue to and have not done what I need to do to assess the issue yet, so I don't have an answer, but I have this for you...

Are the other guages working? Does your red "air bag" light come on? It's possible that it's the corroded connector behind the dash. Pretty easy to access and clean up. Search for how to do it. Plenty of videos. In the 97-01 era, assume it's electrical before mechanical... lol

 

Yeah we're really needing to know what year you have here man. The 84-90 XJs are different from the 91-96 which look similar but have different connections and function - both of which are competely different from the 97-01 which is a digital ODO and Trip and the connections are on a microboard versus the old-school printed circuit.

 

The speedo not working could possibly be a WSS (wheel speed sensor)... it's what sends the speed that the wheels are turning at to the IC (instrument cluster)... my dad's '05 Grand Cherokee WK's speedo stopped working last year and we think that that's the issue pertaining to the problem. For the tach, I don't really know.

 

Speedo and tech are both controlled by the speed sensor asst the tail shaft of the transfer case (or transmission tail cone if 2wd).
